Gift Aid on SMS Donations: FAQ
Can we claim gift aid on Premium SMS donations?
In principle, yes. Any donation made by a basic rate tax payer is eligible for Gift Aid
How can we claim it?
Gift Aid on SMS is claimed in the same way as other Gift Aid: you must be a registered charity, and you must have a Gift Aid declaration for the current tax year form the donor.
Who makes the claim? The charity or the txt4giving?
Gift Aid is always claimed back by the charity from Revenue and Customs.
Is knowing a phone number sufficient to claim on SMS?
Not as such, no. You can claim if you can tie it into an existing declaration. At some point, however, the charity must have a standard basic rate tax payer's declaration. If they have provided their mobile number with the declaration, then you can tie that in to subsequent donations by SMS
Can I get a Gift Aid declaration through SMS?
The problem with the declaration is the amount of information that is required. It is too complex to take by SMS, which is only 160 characters. You can, however, use a mobile site to take the information and send the link to it by SMS.
Can you supply a standard form to do it?
Yes, we offer a standard webform which you can be sent as a link in the response SMS from donations
